The Game Plan for the Big Game on Ocean Drive
Super Bowl LIV is going to be one of the largest in the game’s history with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers, and it is being held here in Miami. So, that means Ocean Drive is going all out. For the nine days before and during the game, The Miami Beach Convention Center is expecting 100,000 – 150,000 people, far exceeding even Art Basel. Hotels, like The Betsy, are seeing unusually high occupancy rates with people excited to celebrate the Super Bowl. Energy is already surging through Ocean Drive in anticipation of all the fun the game will bring. Fox Sports, the network broadcasting the game, will set up their broadcasters, including NFL Network, ESPN, and Univision, in Lummus Park from 5th to 14th Streets. Matt Kenny, Miami Beach Director of Tourism and Culture, stated,
“Fox Sports will be broadcasting for 12-14 hours a day – some days from 4:00 am-midnight, all live from Ocean Drive, with our iconic architecture in the background of all of their shots.”
So, what will be happening on Ocean Drive during Super Bowl LIV?
First things first, Ocean Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Friday, January 31 beginning at 7 a.m. through Monday, February 3. This will provide a beautiful pedestrianized walk with the cafes extending into the street. All the cafes will have big-screen TVs to watch the game while taking in all that Ocean Drive has to offer.
In addition to enjoying the game from the cafes, the Lummus Park Broadcast Area will be the biggest set ever built by Fox. It will include a demo football field, a small Ferris wheel, the Fox News Studio, and more. Live Broadcasts, including Fox and Friends, NFL Film Presents, WWE Backstage, Fox Nation, Race Hub, America’s Newsroom, Super Bowl Pre Game, and Super Bowl Opening Night, will run for 12 – 14 hours daily leading up to the game.
This is going to be an event for the ages perfect for friends and family to come together to celebrate and enjoy not only the Super Bowl, but Ocean Drive at it’s finest. Take a stroll, grab some food, and watch the game from any of your favorite spots!
